Fun times in Montreal!
Yesterday, I finally managed to hook up with some old university buddies who were in town visiting. It’s been a while since I’ve seen them (a couple years perhaps!) and almost a decade since we hung out on a regular basis. Nice to know that they haven’t changed and we still get along as if we hadn’t missed a beat.
I’m continually impressed with Leyla and Kim - strong, independent, motivated, easy-going gals who are so positive and fun to be around. Everyone needs people like that in their life to keep them focused. I was encouraged by their recent successes in life and future plans … perhaps enough to jump start my own job hunt and get myself back on track. We had a nice long lunch at “La Commensal” vegetarian buffet on McGill college - a pseudo healthy meal for their sickly friend. lol. Food was petty good and not as expensive as I thought, will have to go back again when I’m in town for one of my hospital visits. Afterwards, we stopped off at Lenscrafters to pick up my new glasses! Yes, I wear glasses now, and my fashion consultants say that they look great one me. I kinda like the look also .. but I REALLY like being able to see again. lol. Everything is so much clearer. I see road signs now. I can read text that comes up on the TV. People aren’t all blurry when I talk to them. It’s nice. Only odd thing is when I look off to the sides - it’s weird not really having that peripheral vision and actually seeing the frames of my glasses. but I guess I’ll get used to it. One additional thing about getting the glasses … I’m a complete fool. Ya, that’s right, I admit it. lol. Lunch ran a bit long and my parking meter ran out. Instead of taking the 3 minutes to go feed the meter before picking up the glasses, I decided to just grab them on the way to the car. Took longer than I thought because I had to be fitted for the frames. And guess what? When I get to my car, the accursed Green Onion woman was there writing me a ticket! I tried to hop in my car and drive off, but she blocked my exit. So me thinking that I’m somehow immune to getting such things as petty tickets ended up costing me 38$. DOH! I should have listened to Leyla, Kim and Colin … they all said to pay the meter first, but I was too cocky to follow their advice. Lesson learnt: listen to your friends, especially ones who you know are smarter than you! Anyway, was great to see everyone again. Left me wishing they lived closer so I could see them more. Kim is in Newfoundland now and Leyla is moving to Toronto (from the social abyss of Sudbury!). Toronto isn’t that far, might be able to visit Leyla at some point in the new year .. perhaps when I’m doing a job hunt out that way. And Kim is applying to McGill as they have an opening for a Geophysicist! Hope she gets it, that would rock.
In other news, I also went into the hospital for some tests. not much to report. I haven’t lost any weight in the past 2 weeks … probably due to the extra eating during the holidays … been eating larger portions and dipping into the sweets. So I need to get back on track there, went to the grocery last night and got all stocked up in veggies again (yum!). I don’t mind too much though, I was starting to get creeped out by how much weight I was losing in such a short period.
This weekend we’re heading out to Knowlton for lunch. My mom won a 200$ gift certificate at a fancy restaurant (Au Trois Canards). Should be fun, haven’t had a fancy meal for a long time … bonus that it’s free! Perhaps some roasted duck? Don’t think I’ve ever had that before and it’s their speciality. So ya, one more slip before going hard core on the meal plan.
