Blog Improvements and stuff
I was in the midst of writing a huge and awesome blog post about my surgery … when I accidentally hit the backspace key outside of a text box! In firefox, that means that the page goes back to previous in history and I LOST THE POST. I was devastated. Not only was it thorough and well written, it was funny. I wanted to cry. Anyway, I guess I’ll get back to it soon, but in the meantime I decided to make a few changes here.
1) I added a message me box to the right. If you write me a message there it goes directly to my new Instant Messaging software. If you stick around, I can chat back. I guess it’s for all the people who visit and maybe want to say they liked the post or have a question but to shy to make an actual comment that will stick around into infinity. lol. I still get very few comments, which is ok I guess, but it’s nice to know if people found the stuff useful or not.
If you are interested in adding something like this to your blog, or are just looking for a new IM program, check out Digsby. It is simply awesome. Not only does it handle chat for MSN, yahoo, AIM, ICQ, googletalk. But it aslo checks your email and allows you to send an email on ANY account - your own work or ISP email, yahoo, hotmail, gmail, whatever you want! It ALSO links into facebook and myspace if you wish, providing you with notifications and news feeds as they come in. I hardly have to open a web browser anymore (just to actually read a message).
2) Themes. Please help me. I put in this hobbit theme, but it’s ugly. It’s readable and has a search box … those are my 2 requirements. But I just can’t seem to find one I like. I’ve tried dozens.
3) Site continues it’s slow rise in popularity. Now up to 6400 individual hits and about 13000 page loads. Not too bad. My posts on Chicken Pad Ka Prow, low-calorie brownies, and home networking setup for bittorrent users are the 3 most popular pages … mostly coming from google searches.
4) I also updated to Wordpress 2.5 and I must say, the admin interface is much improved. Cleaner and more intelligently-organized. I also added in the mobile admin interface WPhone, which works really well when blogging from phone, or like me recently, over a very slow internet connection (grrr dialup! where is universal wi-fi!)
That’s about it. Still some tinkering ahead, but this setup is working well. Just missing some kind of nice offline wordpress-specific posting tool. So I don’t lose posts again! I’m sure there are lots, just need to find the right one.

lol. OK, I looked at my site hits today and say a gazoodle of recent hits from some address in Oxfordshire, UK. Just wanted to say hi to whomever that is and glad that you find the content useful or mildly interesting. Hoping you’ll say hi back.
