A Moment of Infamy (sorry Videotron et al.)

August 25th, 2008 |

So my previous post, “Videotron (Quebecor) Throttling Bittorrent P2P,” jumped the gun a little bit! Videotron is NOT throttling my connection! (sorry videotron, still love ya - hug back? lol).

Instead, unbeknownst to me, both uTorrent and Azureus bittorrent clients have instituted what they call “bandwidth-allocation.” Read More »

Videotron (Quebecor) Throttling Bittorrent P2P

August 23rd, 2008 |

[Aug 25, 2008 11PM - EDIT/RETRACTION: I overlooked an automatic software update as cause for the BT download limiting - info here]

Yup, Videotron has long been a public supporter of filtering internet or a tiered internet … and now they are taking action on it. According to my own tests, they are now limiting bittorrent downloading to 30KB/s on a plan that is rated at 800KB/s down and about 180KB/s up. Normally, my total bittorrent rates are consistently in the 100-200KB/s range, and I’ve changed nothing (same internet plan, system, software, sources). I’ve searched the internet to see if anyone else has noticed or written about this … and I’ve found nothing. Worse than this, it seems that while downloading via P2P, normal downloading is also compromised.

It is absolutely important that this fact be known to the public. Read More »

Blog Improvements and stuff

April 6th, 2008 |

I was in the midst of writing a huge and awesome blog post about my surgery … when I accidentally hit the backspace key outside of a text box! In firefox, that means that the page goes back to previous in history and I LOST THE POST. I was devastated. Not only was it thorough and well written, it was funny. I wanted to cry. Anyway, I guess I’ll get back to it soon, but in the meantime I decided to make a few changes here.

1) I added a message me box to the right. If you write me a message there it goes directly to my new Instant Messaging software. If you stick around, Read More »

10 Great Firefox addons you could be using

September 16th, 2007 |

Anyone who spends considerable amount of time on the web can truly appreciate those useful little tricks and tweaks that make things easier and generally customize the experience. I’m one of those people, so here’s my favourite list of addons that most people don’t use, but maybe should!

Add to SearchBar1) Add to Search Bar: You know that little search thing in the upper right corner … on its own it’s pretty cool. But did you know that you could easily add ANY search to that list? For any site that you search frequently, add a search for it. I use it for movie sites, torrent sites, news searches, journal searches. anything really.

The next 3 addons are really about optimizing your screen real estate. Read More »

Trying out some new themes

Changing the look of the blog … kinda tired of looking at the old one. Maybe I’ll be more apt to write something if it’s less ugly. lol. Don’t count on it!

Blog and web domain going away. :(

November 15th, 2006 |

My domain name expires today and I don’t yet have the money to renew it. So as of tomorrow, peacekeeper.biz will likely become unreachable to everyone. Hopefully, I’ll be able to scrounge up the 9-20$ needed for this and be able to get the domain back before someone else grabs it. Going to take some time though, because I don’t have a CC to pay with, and need to rely on paypal transfer or regular mail, each of which take weeks to go through.

I feel kinda bad about this, but gotta eat and at least pay my car and bankruptcy every month. If I miss any of those, my future is pretty much in the shitter. I’ll never be able to finance another car if I loose this one and Read More »

Geeky Fun Stuff!

May 1st, 2006 |

As a break from the normal depressing B.S. I’ve been posting, I’m going ot spend some time talking about some cool stuff I use day-to-day. Everyone always seems surprised (or confused) when I mention this stuff to them because they’ve never heard of it before. Software I use, Videocasting, Personal video recorder, cool sites on the web … whatever I can think of. Worth checking out I hope. ;) Read More »
