Merry Christmas Everyone!

December 25th, 2005 |

I know, I know … I keep telling everyone how I’m an atheist and don’t believe in all that dogma and silly tradition … but I make an exception for Christmas. Why? The presents, the food, and the family get-togethers … those are all good things, just sadly wrapped up in some stupid Christian myth. hehe. And Wow, big time this year! Every year we say we aren’t going to go nuts over Christmas .. no presents for kids, nothing. And every year someone caves in. LoL. This year my sister Karen really went above and beyond the call of the Xmas spirit! She got all kinds of stuff for everyone, especially my Mom (took her clothes shopping at Pennington’s and got her a whole wardrobe! plus a bunch of nice gifts) We all made out pretty well on xmas morning … I even got some unexpected presents! “Intelligent Design” defeated in PA school Board case

December 21st, 2005 |

I just wanted to say how happy I am with this news. ID really infuriates me, pretending to be science, when it’s the farthest thing from science. It’s insulting and designed to mislead (brainwash even) the people of the US into voting/advocating something most of them cannot even comprehend. I’m just now reading the ruling written by Judge Jones on this case. He really laid it out plain. Here’s a quote:

To briefly reiterate, we first note that since ID is not science, the conclusion is inescapable that the only real effect of the ID Policy is the advancement of religion. Second, the disclaimer read to students “has the effect of implicitly bolstering alternative religious theories of origin by suggesting that evolution is a problematic theory even in the field of science.” Third, reading the disclaimer not only disavows endorsement of educational materials but also “juxtaposes that disavowal with an urging to contemplate alternative religious concepts implies School Board approval of religious principles.”
The effect of Defendants’ actions in adopting the curriculum change was to impose a religious view of biological origins into the biology course, in violation of the Establishment Clause.

Nicely said eh? And a friend just told me that this fellow was appointed by Bush. Finally that monkey did something right! :D

Diagnosis is in: Autoimmune Hepatitis

November 27th, 2005 |

Well after spending almost 16 days in the hospital (Royal Victoria in Montreal) I finally have the name of the beast that has been causing me so much trouble of late. I have autoimmune hepatitis, and it’s not a good thing. But I am so glad to finally have a diagnosis … even if the outlook isn’t that promising. I had a horrible time in the hospital … the first 2 teams whose care I was placed did a completely incompetent and useless job of diagnosing the problem. It took a consult from a specialist, a new team of doctors, and a lot of yelling and crying by myself and my sister in order to get them to take some prompt action. Basically, they were treating me as if I was the least important person in the hospital and not booking me for the necessary tests with urgent status. They really put my life at risk and once i’m better, they will pay for that >:|

Anyway, here is what happened … Read More »

Time for activism is now!

September 14th, 2005 |

I recently stumbled upon this site Minature Earth and it really helps put life in perspective. Visit the site and let me know what you think.

I’m one of those people that is always outraged by these world facts, but I’ve never really been able to propel myself into activism. It’s too difficult to find an organization to work for and it’s difficult to be outgoing enough to approach them if you do. That, and most organizations are religion-based - I don’t agree with any of these religions and their motives, so I’m SOL I guess. I, like many average people I suspect, try to bring up these kinds of things in normal conversation and particularly in arguments where people feel they are somehow being mistreated because everything isn’t handed to the on a silver platter.

Anyway, I’d like to find some place to volunteer or work where I can work on some activism relating to poverty, world economics, and political movements. Read More »
